Medical Terms

I got a text message this morning from one of my cousins saying she was advised by the doctor to be admitted to the hospital today. Her fever has been on and off for the past 3 days now and rashes are starting to cover her arms and face. Dengue! Her platelet count dropped to 50. She, being a nurse, said that the normal count should be 150. Well, I am not sure if it should be termed that way. I have no idea of what that is. Since I had my new toy with me, I searched online for me to understand it better. I found out that  in an adult, a normal count is about 150000 to 450000 platelets per microliter of blood (via Labtestsonline). I have yet to see the results and start to understand it. Another word I came across today while searching for medical stuff is bovie, which is an instrument used for electrosurgical dissection and hemostasis. Frequently used as a synonym for electrocautery, to Bovie a blood vessel(via Medical Lexicon). Then I came to the word Dengue. To know more about it, click here.

  1. Dengue is always the culprit when a person has on and off fever, so even only in one day they always let their kids undergo a platelet count. advised by a doctor or not.
