At the gates, we were able to hail a cab. The fare from Gombak station to Batu Caves was only for MYR10. This cab driver asked if we could give him MYR12 because we were his first passenger. We said yes because we were in a hurry. After around 10mins, we were now the the Rapid KL Gombak station. Using the public phone, I phoned my cousin to inform him that we were on our way back. My cousin has been working and living in Kuala Lumpur for 5 months now and admitted that he has never tried those trains, nor visited the Batu Caves. Meaning, there was no way for him to guess how long would it take my husband and I to reach the Mid-Valley mall. At the ticket counter, I told the cashier that we were going to the Mid-Valley mall and asked for directions on how to get there. Using my map, she encircled where the mall is located and at what station should we get off to. Ok. Thank you. One-way tickets were purchased and up we went to ride the train. Our map says to get off at the 11th station (Dang Wangi) from Gombak. The cashier said that from there we have to use the over-pass and walk to get to the mall. That's easy. I asked how long would the walk take coz we were running late for an appointment (echos!). All she said was "Aaaaah". Ok. Thank you.
12:30pm We have arrived at the Dang Wangi station. We were good followers so up we wet the over-pass, went down but never found the mall. Arrrgh! We asked the locals around where the Mid-Valley mall is. The answer: "Very far. You have to ride a train or bus to get there." What!?!?!? So up we went to the ticket counter again to ask for directions. We were thankful that the person manning the station this time could speak and understand the English language well. Again I asked, "How do we get to the Mid-Valley Mall?" He replied, "Ahhh, the Megamall!" I replied in haste "Yes, yes. The Megamall!" Only then did I remember that some knew that mall as the Megamall, while the others knew it as Mid-Valley mall. My bad. I should have asked the first person at the counter that we wanted to go to THE MEGAMALL. After being provided with directions, we had a brief chat with the cashier at the ticket counter. He even gave us tips and other tourist destinations that could be easily accessed by foot when at the MEGAMALL. Hubby hugged me and said that everything's gonna be okay. I told him I'm fine and asked him why. The reply: "Mukhang matatalo tayo sa race. At least we tried. Let someone else win na lang." Nyak! But it was cute. He really had that Amazing Race in mind. I love it! Alright, so there wasn't any time to beat now, all we could do was to grab a bottle of water from the refreshments corner at the station, check out the items on sale, and relax. But hell no, WAIT! My cousin was waiting for us at the mall. He's taking us out for lunch and it's almost 1:00pm. Up we went again for the train ride going back to KL Sentral. Yes, KL Sentral. If you look at the map, we could have purchased tickets from Gombak all the way to KL Sentral. While waiting for the train, I got to take a pic of the KL Tower Grrrr....
1:15pm We are now at KL Sentral. We were in a hurry because we thought of my cousin who could be very hungry and worried at this time. There were phone booths around but didn't bother to call him anymore. I am just happy that in Kuala Lumpur, you wouldn't have a difficult time finding a teksi (taxi). Green, red, yellow, black taxis were all lined up. Our only worry is some cab drivers never use the meter and being strangers to the place wouldn't give us any idea as to how much the fare should really be. Luckily, the cab next in line used the meter and didn't ask for an extra pay.
1:30pm The taxi driver says that we should be at the mall in 10mins but we were stuck in traffic. Very much like the Philippines that if you go to the mall on weekends, you'd spend minutes or hours in your car.
1:45pm Thank, heavens! We are now at the Mid-Valley MEGAMALL. Exhausted because of the heat, thirsty, and hungry. Hubby and I headed to the nearest washroom to freshen up. I had to take a quick trip to the washroom first before calling my cousin to tell him we have arrived. Surprise! We met my cousin at the washrooms entrance. No need for the phone call.
2:00pm Nando's. What can I say? Nando's is love, love, love! I've heard a lot about Nando's from my friends but they have never tried it before. Now is my chance bwahahahaha! I am a fan of spicy dishes, and so is the husband. When I saw the place, I was amazed. Whew! It's chili time!!!
At Nando's, you get to choose the level of how hot and spicy you want your food to be. It was my first time but I was decided to give Mild a shot, and Hubby chose Hot. I am not so sure how HOT hot is so Mild it is first then give Hot a try via the sauces made available at each table.
The store decorations had bottles of their sauce displayed everywhere. Instead of concrete or wooden walls, the bottles served its purpose.
2:15pm The husband's order came. He went for the Espetada with 2 sidelines (4 pcs of roasted chicken thighs with capsicums served on a skewer with 2 sidelines) yes, your read it right. Sidelines = side dish He chose Coleslaw and Corn. . Verdict: OH SO YUMMY!
These are not chicken thighs... these are CHICKEN THIGHS !!!
And then my order came and my cousin's order followed. Bottomless soda is the way to go.... we need to burp, burp, burp (excuse me). I think we had around 4 rounds each of bottomless soda. Surprisingly, I couldn't even finish a 12oz bottle of Coke. But because I wanted to burp all the way, Coke is there to rescue me. My order was huge. My cousin and I got their 1/2 chicken with 2 sidelines. My cousine chose Coleslaw and Corn, I got Coleslaw and Rice, yes, Rice. Haha. Oh, boy. They had hefty servings. And the chicken... is CHICKEN! 3:00pm Busog! Window-shopping. Then proceeded to Carrefour to buy pasalubong. We were fortunate enough that a lot of items were on sale at that time. Remember my first post when I mentioned that we only had 2 carry-on bags with us? That became 5. We checked-in 3 bags on our way back home because our flight back home allowed us to check in 15kgs each. Yey! That's 30kgs combined. So, off I went to the luggage area of Carrefour. Yipee! They were on sale. I was able to buy one trolley for only MYR59. Its original price is MYR79. Woohoo! Now I can pack a lot more stuff for people back home. Actually, all we bought is Kickapoo, Teh Tarik, Maggi Kari, and our favorite Old Town White coffee. 10 packs of each. Equally distributed in all bags. The coffee and tea were easy to pack, the challenge was with the noodles. But everything turned out fine. I'm the packing expert ! Take note, it's PACKING, alright? I was able to buy Cadbury chocolates too. I just found it weird that they didn't have Beryl's in stock. I wonder why?
5:00pm We went back to my cousins flat to pack more stuff. Of course I did mention that this trip was only for a day and a half, right? Our flight back to Manila was at 7:20am so we have to be at the airport by 5 in the morning. Oh, I forgot to mention that Hubby was able to buy an HP-GOLLA Laptop bag for only MYR50 from an original price of MYR80, and I got a genuine leather wallet which was also on sale for MYR70, originally priced at MYR95.
7:00pm Hubby and I decided not to go far now and just settle on the ground floor where another mall is and shops, and restaurants. We had dinner at one of the restaurants in the area which was hawker style but had a better ambiance. Finally, my Malaysia visit was complete. The reason: Milo Ais, Nasi Lemak, Kickapoo, and Bandung!
Chicken rice at this restaurant with no name was superb! Extra rice, please?
8:30pm Done with dinner and we're off to take our last stroll at the nearby mall and waste our time there.
11:00pm We decided to call it a night by having another round of beer and kwentuhan. And last photo-ops of where we stayed before we say goodbye.
1:00am Lights out as we need to wake up at 4:00am to be at KL Sentral again.
Day 3
4:15am It's time for us to say goodbye to my cousin and thank him for being a wonderful and accommodating host during our 2-day stay. I felt sad leaving him all alone. It's gonna be back to normal for him. I never am a fan of goodbyes. No worries, we promised we'd be back soon. Hopefully by the end of the year or early next year. Haha! We're gonna ransack his place again.
4:30am We have arrived KL Sentral. The Skybus 4:45am schedule to LCCT left on time.
5:30am LCCT. I love Air Asia's Self Check-In service. Fast and easy. Select your Destination City & key in your Booking Number or scan the Barcode on your Travel Itinerary. Next step, select guests to be checked-in. Lastly, upon confirmation of the details you've entered, wait for your boarding pass to be printed out. Once you have this, have it stamped for confirmation and if you have luggage with you, you may check-in your luggage at this time, as well. As I have mentioned earlier, we arrived Malaysia with only 2 carry-on bags. We are leaving Malaysia now with 5 luggage in tow. A luggage cart is needed now. Haha!
6:00am Departure Lounge. While the husband had his PSP out again, I decided to roam around the area. I wandered around the souvenir shops, bookstores, food court, and Duty Free. After a few minutes, we were ready to board the plane.
7:20am Take off. Good bye, Malaysia. TERIMA KASIH. We promise to be back soon.
11:30am Touch down at DMIA Clark. It was a bumpy ride back home due to the bad weather. We're glad to be home safe.
Next on our travel list: Singapore and of course a little bit of Malaysia. Yahoo!!!!
